European umbrella youth organization

Active is an European non governmental organisation (NGO). We are an umbrella organisation where national temperence organisations who accept the Platform of IOGT International can be members.

Today Active consists of 31 organisation from 24 different countries.

In addition to this we co-operate with organisations and networks who share our ideas in many other countries. Our closest cooperation partner is NORDGU.

Active is a member of the European Youth Forum and Eurocare.

What it means to be a member of Active?

Being a member of Active – Sobriety, Friendship and Peace means that you become part of a family that is sharing the same vision, values, and most importantly, that is working together on creating a better future for young Europeans. We are a heart-driven group of young people that want to see Europe free from alcohol and other drugs, where young people live up to their full potential to create and make use of their own ideas. If you find yourself in this description, feel free to write us an email.

Being a full member organization of Active means you get to have equal right to vote and decide on the internal policies, Plan of Action and strategic path of the whole organization (during the bi-annual Congress of the organization). Additionally, Active organizes approximately two European seminars and one summer camp per year in a different European country. We also welcome our member organizations to participate at our regular campaigns through their own local and national events. All of these events are there for our members to get to know each other better, to exchange ideas and best practices of how are we working with the same issues in different countries, and moreover to create long-lasting friendships and find support.

Finally, being a member of Active means that we are at your service. Active exists for its member organizations, to be a recourse centre to them, to support their organizational and individual development and to represent them on European level. The member organizations of Active get yearly support in organizational development; have the access to the knowledge and experience that all the other member organizations have gained, serving as lessons learned. The broad and different ways our members work have created a deep and quality knowledge base in Active for development and support of civil sociality work in Europe. Moreover, Active is a member of several European networks, mostly in the fields of youth work and health, where our members can fully represent Active, get more specific knowledge and capacity building, broaden their contact network and represent the voice of the young sober Europeans.

How to become a member organization?

If you are an individual, you can take a look at our member organizations list and see if there is an organization in your country you might want to join.

If you are an organization or you would be interested in starting a group/organization, please read our policies and constitution to see whether you can find your vision within out platform. You can find the form for becoming a member organization here. Each full member organization submits a yearly membership fee and an annual report of activities.
