Read here the Commission's reply to our mail we sent to DG Sanco's Commissioner, Tonio Borg, in March this year. Particularly interesting is the stress on individual member states to address alcohol related harm, which is an encouragement for organisations working with their governments on this topic. Lets keep pressing on and we'll see if there is anything new in the Commission's alcohol strategy when we meet on 25th in Brussels for the Alcohol and Health Forum!
Dear Commissioner Mr Borg, We hope this letter finds you well. We would firstly like to welcome you in the name of all our members to your new position at the Directorate General for Health and Consumers. We wish you much success in making Europe healthier and happier for us young people in the upcoming years.
A new report calls for a new radical approach to dealing with Europe’s growing issue of alcohol consumption among adolescents, beginning with positive messaging. Youth have known it for years, research is catching up and many policy makers in Europe have never heard of it. The traditional manner of dealing with such issues by “listing the risks” fails to incentivise young people to change their behaviour. Why?
