Hitting the Streets

Active's new member organisation- Active UK will participate in ‘Hitting the Streets – Youth to Youth on Alcohol’ on Saturday 23 June 2012 in Lodnon, which is an exciting, interactive free event aimed at giving young people and those who work with them the opportunity to share their views on alcohol related issues.

Alcohol is more harmful than heroin* yet alcohol is a substance that is accepted by society, but is ‘drinking to get drunk’ acce...ptable? The purpose of this Event is to hear the views from young people, and also those working with young people, on the issues around alcohol.

Four organisations, who are actively working with children and young people both here in the UK and Europe, have been invited to give interactive presentations and workshops to demonstrate an alternative life-style choice. Active will be there!

The event is being sponsored by the NUTC, a national organisation concerned about alcohol issues.

Simon Olsson, president of Active, replies to Commissioner Borg from DG Sanco and emphasises the need for Commissioner Borg to provide stronger leadership and guidance for the development of a new EU Alcohol Strategy.
4/11/2013 - Response letter from Tonio Borg
Read here the Commission's reply to our mail we sent to DG Sanco's Commissioner, Tonio Borg, in March this year. Particularly interesting is the stress on individual member states to address alcohol related harm, which is an encouragement for organisations working with their governments on this topic. Lets keep pressing on and we'll see if there is anything new in the Commission's alcohol strategy when we meet on 25th in Brussels for the Alcohol and Health Forum!

Emil – NSF Sweden During the Easter week there was a seminar called Change the Change held by Active in Estonia. I was one of the lucky few participants who were able to attend the seminar and I’m really grateful that I was able to experience an Active seminar.

Youth have known it for years, research is catching up and many policy makers in Europe have never heard of it.
