Happy new year!
The sun is shining, the snow is sparkling, and life is good! At least that’s the outlook from Bergen. It’s been quite a good start for 2010, and I have now decided to go for the “two-thousand-and-ten” and not “twenty-ten” pronunciation. What have you chosen?
I was reading in my regional newspaper that the children’s help-line in Norway got over 117 calls during Christmas, mostly about parents or care-takers being too drunk or high on other drugs. Even though the holiday season is for many people a season of joy there are many people suffering during this time as well –and we should also remember these people.
Some of our member organisations are each Christmas organising a campaign called “White Christmas”, a campaign that focuses on children and young people's right to have a Christmas without adults who are affected by alcohol. The organisers collect contracts from adults who promise not to drink alcohol in the Christmas day: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Maybe this is a campaign you can help organise next year?
2010 is a year of many great things; Active is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary this year and we also have our Active camp & congress in Fredrikstad, Norway. The board is beginning to prepare the documents for the congress on our next boardmeeting in Bratislava, Slovakia, and organisations who are thinking about sending proposals for changes and additions to what Active should work on, can already start to send their thoughts and ideas - contributions are appreciated. The nomination committee for the 2010-2012 board has also started to work, and if you are interested in joining the future board you can contact them on nomcom(at)activeeurope(dot)org. If you’re wondering about what it is like to be a boardmember you can e-mail us and ask, or I’m sure we can write a blog entry about that too!
Whatever your plans for two-thousand-and-ten are, I wish you all the best. May it be a great year!
