Replacing the President

She’s on a boat somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, sailing from Japan to South Pacific and back to Japan on the Ship for World Youth, a project which the Japanese embassy organizes every year.
Although we are in the 21st century, still the ocean has no internet connection and even mobile reception is really bad there. With this, the President is officially on vacation for the next 2 months, and it’s the Vice President’s time to step in. This means me.
Recently it happens pretty often, that I am amazed how some jobs look simple and easy from the side, but as you do them yourself you realize how much hard work it really is. I guess I have been fooled by those people again who make it look so simple and easy. One example I can give is dealing with Transit or the Newsletter. Or, apparently, doing the tasks of a president. You always have to keep an eye on discussions and even remember things that were discussed a year ago, you can’t allow yourself to be unfocused, offline or unreachable for a longer time, and the list continues. Also the preparations for the next board meeting often start months before the meeting – who would have thought.
Which reminds me – the next board meeting is coming soon, from 27th of February to 1st of March in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. As always, contributions from member organisations and members to our board meeting agenda are very welcome. So if there’s something you’d like the board to discuss and decide upon, send an e-mail latest 12th of February to activeboard (at) activeeurope.org.
